LAY DAY CALLED FOR EASTER SUNDAY

News provided by ASP World Tour on 15 April 2006

Organisers of the Rip Curl Pro Surf and Music Festival have decided to postpone the main event again today given that the swell at Bells Beach, Australia is not up to par.

With only one full day needed to complete the event and with the waiting period extending until April 22, organisers have the luxury of waiting until excellent conditions return which is highly likely given that there are some positive forecasts for later in the week.

Ben Matson from swellnet.com.au has indicated that a large swell will hit the area on Wednesday and Thursday.

There are two more heats still to be run in round three of the event, which is the second on the Foster’s ASP Men’s World Tour, and then heading into round four, spectators will be treated to some incredible surfing action given the tremendous quality of the match-ups.

Despite there being no main event surfing action there will still be plenty to look at as there will be a host of junior events and expression sessions.

The Bells Beach car park was packed yesterday as it played host to numerous music acts and today it will follow suit with acts such as Bad Boy Boogie, Beau Young, Tzu and Faker kicking off from midday local time.

Organisers will reconvene tomorrow at 7am (local time) to assess conditions.

Round four heats to date:

Heat 1: Luke Stedman (AUS) vs Pancho Sullivan
Heat 2: Paulo Moura (BRA) vs Shaun Cansdell
Heat 3: Bruce Irons (HAW) vs Bede Durbidge
Heat 4: Taylor Knox (USA) vs Kelly Slater (USA)
Heat 5: Andy Iron (HAW) vs Bobby Martinez (USA)
Heat 6: Taj Burrow (AUS) vs Mark Occhilupo (AUS)
Heat 7: Mick Fanning (AUS) vs Greg Emslie (ZAF)
Heat 8: Yet to be decided
