IRONS BROTHERS TAKE THE METAL IN THE FOSTER EXPRESSION SESSION

News provided by ASP World Tour on 21 July 2005

As the swell at Jeffreys Bay, South Africa stays constant at around one metre (3 feet), organisers of the Billabong Pro opted to send out the lads for the Foster’s Expression Session today.

The sessions, a highly popular part of the Foster’s ASP World Tour event schedule, allow the surfers to show their wares without the confines of time and a regimented judging system.

With a stack of surfers in the water the competitors have the chance to score $US2000, claimed by Bruce Irons (HAW) for the biggest aerial manoeuvre or $US1000, claimed by brother Andy (HAW), for the best wave.

With the wind tending slightly cross-shore, the conditions provided the perfect opportunity for Bruce Irons to get plenty of air time on the long walling righthander and he did so on numerous occasions.

And prior to a wave where Bruce boosted at least three huge airs, Luke Stedman was holding down the prize after landing a monster alley-oop (where the surfer executes an aerial, then spins the board in mid air).

Bruce Irons eclipsed Stedman when he travelled at high speed down the line and then launched at least two feet above the wave on three occasions.

Andy Irons winning wave was perhaps the largest to come through all morning. His attack consisted of five rounded gouges on the faces of the wave.

Stay tuned to aspworldtour.com and billabong.com for all the news updates plus the live action from the final day at the Billabong Pro, Jeffreys Bay.

Organisers are expecting to start at 7.30am sharp with heat one of round four.
