RIP CURL SEARCH WCT DAY TWO TO START AT 7.30am REUNION TIME

News provided by ASP World Tour on 25 June 2005

A slight swell increase overnight is set to deliver more magnificent waves for the world's best surfers on Reunion Island today, with Round One action in the inaugural Rip Curl Search WCT event continuing from 7.30am (Reunion-time).

Excellent 1.5 to 2 metre (4 to 6 foot) waves are again rolling into St Leu, with Hawaii's reigning three-time world champion Andy Irons hitting the water in the first heat this morning, up against Australian 18th seed Richie Lovett and Reunion wildcard David Grainville.

The first eight heats of Round One were completed yesterday, with top 16 seeds dominating the results of the three-man heats.

Among yesterday's heat winners were, America's six-time world champion and current world ratings leader Kelly Slater, his fellow Floridian Cory Lopez, Hawaiian Fred Patacchia, Brazilian Marcelo Nunes and Australians Mick Fanning, Nathan Hedge, Taj Burrow and Troy Brooks.

Event organisers expect to complete the remaining eight heats of Round One today, (with three surfers in each heat), and probably the first eight heats of Round Two, the first man-on-man knockout heats of the fifth Foster's men's WCT event of the year.

No surfers are eliminated in Round One, with the winners advancing to Round Three and earning a day off. Round One second and third place placegetters advance to Round Two, where man-on-man knockout competition begins.
