MOST POWERFUL WAVES IN YEARS FORECASTED TO HIT SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA COAST AND BOOST MOBILE PRO RESTARTING TOMORROW

News provided by ASP World Tour on 15 September 2005

The Boost Mobile Pro of Surf Presented by Quiksilver resumes tomorrow at 8am with massive waves expected. And with some extremely exciting matchups including the much anticipated duel between six-time world champ Kelly Slater and wildcard competitor and Southern California native Dane Reynolds organisers of the eighth event on the Foster’s ASP Men’s World Tour expect a huge crowd to be on hand.

According to the American National Weather Service, a storm system to the south is generating powerful waves at south-facing beaches along the Southern California Coast, which will be among the most powerful of the summer with waves up to three metres (10 feet) high – bigger than the epic conditions at the Boost Mobile Pro in 2002.

“We’ve been liaising with surf forecaster Surfline, California State Parks and contest director Mike Parsons and the word is that the storm swell coming from Fiji is going to hit Trestles in time for round three tomorrow, and early indications are that it could be triple overhead in size,” said Mark Fewell of Boost Mobile. “Even at one metre (two-to-three feet), Lower Trestles is an incredible high-performance wave, especially when you put the world’s best surfers out there. But with triple overhead waves, this is going to be the best surf we’ve ever had for the contest and some of the best surfing of the year will take place right here.”

“I can’t believe the luck that the Boost Mobile Pro has had year after year,” said contest director and former Foster’s ASP Men’s World Tour competitor, Mike Parsons. “The south swell forecasted to hit as the contest develops, looks like it’s going to be the biggest south swell of the entire summer!”

The fourth annual Boost Mobile Pro of Surf is the only opportunity for spectators to see the world’s top 45 pro surfers compete on the US mainland for $270,000 in prize money. Competition resumes tomorrow with the finals taking place on Sunday. The event schedule includes:
