LAY DAY CALLED AS BOOST MOBILE PRO WAITS FOR SWELL
News provided by ASP World Tour on 15 September 2005
With the swell abating slightly overnight organisers of the Boost Mobile Pro Of Surf presented by Quiksilver have opted to call a lay day in anticipation of conditions building tonight.
Round three of the eighth event of the Foster’s ASP Men’s World Tour will kick off tomorrow at around 8am with some extremely exciting matchups including the much anticipated duel between wildcard Dane Reynolds and six-time world champ Kelly Slater in heat eight.
Reynolds, a giant killer here in years past (last year he threw Andy Irons’s title campaign into a spin after defeating him in round three) pulled off one of the biggest aerial reverse turns ever seen in contest conditions and could potentially prove to be troublesome for Slater who is on track for his seventh world crown.
The event will then go into another lay day on Saturday and will be completed on Sunday. This is due to local State Park regulations where event days have to be nominated in advance.
Other much awaited matchups include Taj Burrow (AUS) and Tim Currren (USA), Mick Fanning (AUS) and Kirk Flintoff (AUS), and CJ Hobgood (USA) and Shane Beschen (USA). These heats are particularly noted because all are much suited to the Trestles style of wave and all are excellent aerial manoeuvre exponents.
