STAR-STUDDED TRIALS TO KICK OFF THE BOOST MOBILE PRO TODAY
News provided by ASP World Tour on 13 September 2005
Anticipation for today’s start of the Boost Mobile Pro presented by Quiksilver has built in tandem with the swell, now beginning to arrive at Lower Trestles, California. A burgeoning world title race, an epic wave forecast and the progression of an already unparalleled Foster’s Men’s World Championship Tour, are sure to enhance what is already considered one the tour’s best stops.
Most of the top 45 made their way down to Trestles for a warm-up session on the high-performance pointbreak yesterday. Among them Mark “Occy” Occhilupo, the former world champ who has been on tour for over two decades.
“I’m really excited about the big swell prediction,” said Occhilupo. “I surfed yesterday and it was sort of small but they’re saying it’s going to build through the week and will get pretty big, so that’s right up my alley. I’m stoked.”
An action-packed schedule of events have been organized around the main event, stop eight of eleven the 2005 calendar. A trials event boasting the likes of Tom Curren, Rob Machado, Dane Reynolds and more will get underway at 8am this morning with the top four finishers jumping straight into round one of the Boost Mobile Pro held immediately afterwards. The world’s best will then don their formal wear and head to Anahiem for the 2005 Surfer Poll awards this evening.
The Quiksilver Surf Shop Challenge, Foster’s Expression Session and Mazda Big Air Show are also on deck to delight spectators during the course of the week. No competition will be held Saturday, but the event finals and a celebrity surf session on Sunday will wrap things up with a bang.
