QUIKSILVER PRO JAPAN ROUND TWO UNDERWAY NOW AT MALIBU
News provided by ASP World Tour on 3 September 2005
Organisers of the Quiksilver Pro Japan have given the green light for round two as the swell from Typhoon Nabi has kicked in at around two metres (six foot) and is offering excellent conditions at a reefbreak approximately 20 minutes drive south of the home base of Hebara Beach.
Serving up a long righthander, the break, known as Malibu, will host some solid match-ups as the round two draw is one of the most interesting of the 2005 season to date.
With some of the biggest names on the Foster’s ASP Men’s World Tour being relegated to the first sudden death round, a loss here today could prove critical in the race for the 2005 crown.
In late breaking news, Joel Parkinson, currently ranked number five on this year’s tour, has withdrawn due to a medial ligament tear which he suffered while freesurfing two days ago.
With the Quiksilver Pro Japan the first of three tour events back-to-back, a dejected Parkinson boarded a plane for Australia last night, heeding doctor’s advice that he should withdraw rather than risk further injury.
Quiksilver will be doing live webcasts of the next three ASP WCT events on www.quiksilver.com and www.aspworldtour.com
* Quiksilver Pro Japan. 31 August - 7 September
