QUIKSILVER PRO FRANCE ROUND THREE UNDERWAY IN HUGE CONDITIONS
News provided by ASP World Tour on 28 September 2005
With the swell building overnight to a sizeable three to four metres (eight to 12 foot) organisers of the Quiksilver Pro France presented by Samsung have opted to move the event 500 metres south from its base camp at La Graviere, Hossegor to a sand bank known as La Nord.
After much deliberation it has been decided to get underway with round three at 1pm local time and surfers are dusting off their big-wave boards for the mission ahead.
Heading into round three of the ninth event on the Foster’s ASP Men’s World Tour, spectators can expect to see sparks fly when surfers return to the water as the matchups on the draw are some of the most exciting this year.
Ensuring the round will start with a bang is heat one which pits 2001 tour champion CJ Hobgood (USA) up against whizkid wildcard Dane Reynolds (USA). Both are known aerial exponents although with the waves providing a lot of push and some huge barrels be prepared to witness a serious “green room” time.
The main focus of the round will, however, be on ratings leaders Kelly Slater (USA) and Andy Irons (HAW). With both surfers the only realistic chances in the race for the 2005 Foster’s ASP Men’s World Tour crown they’ll be eager to hold off challenges from wildcards Jeremy Flores (REU) and Maz Quinn (NZ) respectively.
Slater could in fact claim the title right here in France this week if he wins the event but Irons is out to ruin Slater’s dream of claiming his seventh title. Irons has to finish ahead of Slater in the remaining events or better still claim victory in all three.
There is also the possibility that the two could face off against each other in the final – which would be the third time they have met this year.
Slater is also on a roll after winning the last event in Trestles, California. He has four victories so far this season.
Get on line now for the full heat draw and to witness all the action!
Tune into the live webcast of the Quiksilver Pro France, presented by Samsung with Evian, at www.quiksilver.com/france05 and www.aspworldtour.com The broadcast will be in four languages – English, French, Portuguese and Spanish.
