The Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) has announced that urban surfing is the next big thing. The idea of having top competitions in metropolitan surf cities is quite good for the sport and spectators.
USA and Brazil are two relevant surfing nations. Thousands of surfers live in the ultra crowded urban areas of NY and Rio. Plus, you've got world class surf spots and consistent conditions throughout the year. Long Island's Long Beach is a classy spot for local with plenty of room and waves for the best surfers in the world.
Then, Barra da Tijuca is also a must. With solid swell, consistent and rippable beachbreaks, it will be fun to see the how the pros will cope with good waves and beautiful girls. Praia da Arpoador and Canto do Recreio will serve as the secondary sites, if needed.
So, after urban surfing, what's next? Indoor surfing, who knows? The Kelly Slater Wave Company might unveil a new laboratory wave to be installed in pools, lakes or rivers. For now, let's enjoy the Billabong Pro Rio de Janeiro 2011 and the Quiksilver Pro New York. Stoked.

The Kitesurf Tour Europe (KTE) has announced the draft schedule for the 2011 contests. There will be six stages, starting off in Spain, in the month of May. The KTE 2011 will also visit six countries: Spain, Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Poland and France. The last competition will be held in October. The official kiteboarding rules have been changed by the International Sailing Federation (ISAF). Several relevant changes are introduced. For example, there are three disciplines: Racing, Expression and Speed. In the Racing sector there will be the following formats: Course Racing, Marathon, Downwind Racing, Slalom, Boarder X and Kitecross. In the Expression sector, there will be the following formats: Wave performance, Freestyle, Wakestyle, Hang Time, High Jump, Kite Loop and Sliders.
