QUIKSILVER PRO SEMIFINALS AND FINAL TO RUN AT DURANBAH BEACH
News provided by ASP World Tour on 10 March 2006
The final three heats of the Quiksilver Pro presented by Samsung will run at Duranbah Beach this morning beginning at 8am local time.
Four surfers remain in trophy contention in this first event of the Foster’s ASP Men’s World Tour and in a testament to what should prove to be an exciting dynamic throughout the year, two rookies will meet proven performers in the one metre conditions..
Semi final one will feature reigning world champion Kelly Slater (USA) versus giant-killer Bobby Martinez (USA).
Martinez’s maiden top tour run has seen him stop seasoned competitors Phil MacDonald (AUS), Joel Parkinson (AUS) and Damien Hobgood (USA) thus far.
Semi final two will see an in-form Taj Burrow (AUS) meet 19-year-old Adriano de Souza (BRA) in what could be an aerial-infiltrated showdown.
Both surfers are known for their progressive “new-school” maneuvers and the conditions on offer suit their respective styles.
The Foster’s Expression Session will follow today’s semifinal.
