ON WITH THE SHOW…
News provided by ASP World Tour on 27 May 2005
THE swell has dropped just marginally here in Fiji overnight, and the Globe WCT Fiji is back in the water on the world-famous lefts of Cloudbreak, re-commencing this morning in clean 3-5’ conditions with occasional bigger sets. The fourth fixture on the Foster’s Men’s World Tour will start around 9.15am with heat eleven of round one.
We have a high tide at 9.45am, and so with the turn of the tide we can hopefully expect the waves to get more wall to them, drawing better off the reef and hopefully pitching more open.
It was obvious at dawn that the waves were smaller, but as yesterday, the Foster’s Top 45 were out on the reef en masse, Nathan ‘Hog’ Hedge amongst them celebrating his 26th birthday today. It’s also the fourth birthday of Daniel Wills’ daughter Simone, and Joel Parkinson’s daughter Evie Kate’s first birthday today. There’ll be cake flying everywhere tonight.
Hopefully, there’ll be high scores thrown around on the Cloudbreak reef this morning, though first reports are that it’s hard to find an open womb. The swell is forecast to rise mid to late afternoon, and be bigger tomorrow.
“It’s fun but smaller than yesterday, but still some good waves out there. Mostly 3-4’ with the odd five footer,” said Luke Egan after the early morning session.
“The conditions are similar to yesterday, the size more or less the same…it’s kind of small, but sometimes come bigger sets with some barrel,” was the broken-English analysis from Brazil’s Guilherme Herdy who was out there for the second shift just before heat 11 started. Seems like it’s improving.
