Surfing Madonna Artist Unveiled

ENCINITAS — The Surfing Madonna artist came forward Wednesday in light of the possibility that the piece could suffer severe damage should Encinitas try to remove it without his help.

Anton Gerschler, sent an email to Encinitas City Manager
Phil Cotton and City Attorney Glenn Sabine Wednesday, informing them of an easy removal process that would leave 18 screw-holes in the train bridge.
Patterson gave an interview to Fox 5 explaining that his depiction of Our Lady of Guadalupe on a surfboard was a gift to the city. He wanted to spread the message “save the ocean,” which is written down the side of the 10-foot-by-10-foot mosaic.
