Author: Transworld Surf

LOS ANGELES, CA (July 22, 2011) – The 4th Annual Supergirl Pro Junior surf contest will hit the waves in Oceanside, CA, on August 13, with one of the biggest contests in Pro Junior history. Sixteen of the best 20-year-old-and-under female surfers in the world will be competing for the coveted Supergirl cape in the only 6-Star Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Pro Junior contest in North America.

With one of the largest prize purses on the Circuit, the Supergirl Pro Junior has attracted a world-class field of surfing talent, including three of the top ten female surfers on the ASP Women’s World Tour. Superstar Coco Ho (Oahu, HI), currently ranked 6th in the world, will be back to defend her title against 7th ranked and 2009 Supergirl Pro Junior Champion, Courtney Conlogue (Santa Ana, CA) and 10th ranked Laura Enever (Sydney, Australia). 2010 Supergirl Pro Junior silver medalist and former Women’s U.S. Open Champion, Malia Manuel (Kauai, HI), the world’s 2nd ranked junior, Leila Hurst (Kauai, HI), the 5th ranked junior and Lakey Peterson (Santa Barbara, CA), currently 7th on the Women’s World Rankings, add to a deep field of top pros.

The Supergirl Pro Junior is the first event of the 2011 Supergirl Jam series, the action sports industry’s largest all-female competition and lifestyle series, featuring more than 100 female pros in surfing, skateboarding, inline skating and snowboarding. The second event will be held in Venice, CA, on August 21, and will include both skate and snow contests on the world-famous Venice Beach boardwalk.

“I am really excited to be competing in the Supergirl Pro Junior again,” said top pro Coco Ho. “It’s an amazing field of surfers competing this year, and as the defending champion, I know the other girls will be gunning to get my pink cape.”

Courtney Conlogue, 2009 US Open of Surf Champion and Billabong pro surfer, added, “The event is always super fun and the whole Supergirl Jam series sends out such a positive message about female empowerment. I am really happy to be a part of the contest and all that it stands for.”

The 2011 Supergirl Jam series will be broadcast nationally in October via three hours of coverage on Fox Sports Net (FSN) and five hours of coverage on Fuel TV. Stay tuned to www.SupergirlJam.com or www.actionsportstour.com for more show times and dates.
