QUARTERFINALS OF THE BILLABONG GIRLS PRO BRAZIL WILL RUN TODAY
News provided by ASP World Tour on 25 August 2006
ITACARÉ, Brazil – The quarterfinal round of the Billabong Girls Pro Brazil will begin at 3pm local time at Praia da Tiririca, Itacaré.
Event officials have been holding competition later in the day to allow the tide to fill in and improve wave conditions. Three foot (one metre) waves are on offer today.
Four thirty-minute heats will see semifinalists decided by roughly 5pm today. The semis and final will likely run tomorrow.
Quarterfinal four, featuring Brazilian rookie Silvana Lima and former World Champion Sofia Mulanovich (PER), will be a South American showdown not to be missed.
Both surfers have been in blistering form over the last few days and will be hungry for semifinal berths. Neither Lima nor Mulanovich have earned a better than quarterfinal finish on this year’s ASP Women’s World Tour.
Quarterfinal Match-Ups:
Quarterfinal 1: Julia Christian (USA) vs. Jessi Miley-Dyer (AUS)
Quarterfinal 2: Claire Bevilacqua (AUS) vs. Chelsea Georgeson (AUS)
Quarterfinal 3: Layne Beachley (AUS) vs. Heather Clark (ZAF)
Quarterfinal 4: Silvana Lima (BRA) vs. Sofia Mulanovich (PER)
